Old Testament Salvation…(A Devotional Minute)

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
Hebrews 11:1

In ancient times, individuals in the Old Testament were granted salvation through their faith in God’s grace. It was not their adherence to the Ten Commandments that ensured their salvation, as it was an impossible feat for anyone to fully accomplish. If salvation could be attained by strictly obeying the Commandments, then there would be no need for the concept of atonement. The death of Jesus on the cross would be deemed unnecessary if individuals could secure their salvation solely through their own good deeds.

The belief is that salvation is not earned through our works alone, but rather through our faith and acceptance of God’s grace. This perspective highlights the profound significance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and the redemption it offers. It underscores the understanding that our own efforts are insufficient to achieve salvation and emphasizes the vital role that faith plays in our spiritual journey.

By acknowledging our limitations and recognizing our need for God’s intervention, we embrace the transformative power of grace. It is through this act of surrender and acceptance that we open ourselves to the boundless love and forgiveness of God. This understanding allows us to view Jesus’ death not as a tragic waste, but as a profound act of love and sacrifice that has the power to redeem and transform lives.

In essence, the Old Testament teaches us that salvation cannot be attained through our own merit or adherence to laws, but rather through a deep and unwavering faith in God’s grace. It encourages us to let go of the notion that we can save ourselves through our own efforts, and instead trust in the saving power of God’s love. By embracing this truth, we find solace, peace, and assurance in our spiritual journey, knowing that we are not alone and that our salvation rests in the hands of a benevolent and loving Creator.
