The Security of our Salvation: The Reasons We Can Believe We Are Secure in Christ Forever

I believe that, because of God’s love for us, all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. I believe that it Is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion for sinful living and carnality.  I believe, however, that our God is a holy and righteous Father and that since He cannot overlook the sin of His children, He will, when they continue to sin, lovingly correct them with his infinite love; he will save them and keep them forever, apart from any and all human deeds and works.

I believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 3:36; 5:24; 6:37-40; 6:47; 10:27-30; Romans 5:9-10; 8:1, 31-39; 11:29; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; Ephesians 1:12-14; 4:30; Hebrews 7:25; 13:5; 1 Peter 1:5; 1 John 5:1, 13; Jude 24). I believe that it Is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion for sinful living and carnality (Romans 6:15-22; 13:13-14; Galatians 5:13, 25-26; Titus 2:11-14).
Excerpt from my Personal Doctrinal Statement

Our salvation through faith in Jesus Christ is so essential that it is vital to our eternal destiny. It is the one thing that will never change, and it is the one thing we can be sure of. But how can we be sure of our salvation? How can we be confident that we are secure in Christ forever? There are several reasons why we can trust that our salvation is secure. The Bible offers us a plethora of promises and assurances backed up by the power of God Himself. In addition, we can take several security measures to ensure that our salvation is secure, such as living a life of obedience to God’s commands. Ultimately, by having faith in the promises of God, we can have confidence that our salvation is secure in Christ forever.

Biblical Promises and Assurances of our Salvation

The Bible is full of promises and assurances about our salvation. In John 3:16, Jesus tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is a powerful promise of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. In addition, the apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:38-39 that “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This promise assures us that nothing can separate us from God’s love and salvation if we are trusting in Jesus Christ.

Power of God’s Promises

The power of God’s promises to us should never be underestimated. Through His promises, we can find security and assurance in our salvation. We can also be reminded of His great love for us and how He will never leave us or forsake us. As we rely on these promises and take the necessary steps to ensure our salvation remains secure, we can have confidence that nothing can separate us from the love of God found in Jesus Christ.

Security Measures to Take

There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation, and there is nothing we can do to lose our salvation.  God will not love us more or less than the day Jesus paid the price on the cross for our sins.  Those that argue against the assurance of our salvation will argue that: 1.) We just want a license to sin as we please. or 2.) That we will lose our salvation by not keeping the commandment.  1 John 3:6 tells us that no one that continues to habitually sin knows God.  And 1 John 5:18 says that anyone that continues to habitually sin can not be born of God.  No, this does not be we can stop sinning altogether, for 1 John 1:8 tells us that if we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  Our Lord told us himself there will be people who say, “didn’t we call you Lord”  and he will say, “depart from me; I never knew you”

Isn’t everyone who calls on the Lord saved?

The Bible tells us that not everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved. In Matthew 7:21–23, Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” This verse reminds us that salvation comes from calling on the Lord and living according to His will. In other words, genuine faith in God must be accompanied by a willingness to live by His Word. True believers understand that salvation is not something to be taken lightly. It requires commitment, obedience, and a life dedicated to serving Him. So if you’re serious about being saved, the first step is to call on the Lord and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. And the next step is to live a life of faith and obedience, following His will for your life. With God’s help, you can do it. So don’t be discouraged if you stumble along the way. Instead, keep calling on the Lord and trusting in Him. He will never forsake you.

The Bible teaches that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). However, it is essential to note that this does not mean that everyone who simply utters the words “I call on the Lord” will be saved. To indeed receive salvation through Jesus Christ, one must repent of their sins and confess their faith in Him. This requires an active decision and a commitment to living a life of obedience to God’s commands, as found in Scripture.

The Wonderful Mercy and Grace of our Lord.

The mercy and grace of our Lord are genuinely wonderful. In His mercy, He provides us with forgiveness for our sins and a path to redemption through faith in Jesus Christ. In His grace, He gives us the undeserved gift of salvation and eternal life with Him. We can never fully understand or appreciate the depths of His mercy and grace. Still, we can show our gratitude by responding to His love with obedience and trust.

Living a Life of Obedience.

In order to live a life of obedience to God, we must first understand His will for us. This begins with reading and studying Scripture, as it is the inspired Word of God and the ultimate authority for our lives. As we learn more about His character and commands, we can strive to live according to His will each and every day. We can also seek out accountability from spiritual mentors and friends who can help us stay on track in our walk with the Lord. Finally, we must remember that obedience is a heart issue as much as an action issue; if our hearts are not aligned with God’s, then our actions will not be either.

Having Faith in God’s Promises.

In addition to living a life of obedience, we must also have faith in God’s promises. We can trust that He is faithful and loving and will never leave or forsake us. We can rely on His Word to bring us hope and comfort in difficult times. We must also remember that God is sovereign and wise, and His plans are always for our ultimate good. As we trust Him, He will provide the strength and wisdom we need to get through whatever challenges come our way.

Sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Finally, as followers of Christ, we must share the Good News of Jesus with others so that they, too, may experience the same grace and mercy given to us. We can do this through prayers for those around us, by inviting them to church services or Bible studies or simply by sharing our own testimonies about how God has changed our lives for the better. We can give no more excellent gift than introducing someone else to their Savior!

Conclusion: The Certainty of Our Salvation in Christ

As followers of Christ, we know that salvation is a gift from God. We can be sure that our salvation is secure because God has promised to preserve it and because He constantly works on our behalf to bring us into a right relationship with Him. Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, combined with a life of obedience and accountability, can bring us peace and assurance in this life and eternal life with Him in the next. There are several ways in which we can ensure that our salvation is secure. First, we can grow in our knowledge of God’s Word and in our understanding of what it means to trust in Jesus Christ. We can also trust in His promises and live a life that is pleasing to Him. Finally, we can share Christ with others through the power of the spoken and written Word and pray for them as they seek the Lord and His kingdom.

And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.
John 3:36

I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
John 5:24

However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.
John 6:37-40

I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.
John 6:47

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.
John 10:27-30

And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
Romans 5:9-10

Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Thank God! Once, you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. Now you are free from your slavery to sin and have become slaves to righteous living. Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
Romans 6:15-22

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:31-39

For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.
Romans 11:29

Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
Romans 13:13-14

I always thank my God for you and for the gracious gifts he has given you, now that you belong to Christ Jesus. Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge. This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true. Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
1 Corinthians 1:4-8

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
Galatians 5:13

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, or jealous of one another.
Galatians 5:25-26

God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
Ephesians 1:12-14

Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by how you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.’
Titus 2:11-14

Therefore, he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
Hebrews 7:25

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
Hebrews 13:5

And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
1 Peter 1:5

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too.
1 John 5:1

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
1 John 5:13

Now all glory to God, who can keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
Jude 24
