The Bible says we are surrounded by darkness, but there is a way out. We have Light in the midst of this darkness! In 1 John 1:5-7, God reminds us that He has given us Light so we will not remain in darkness. When we follow the advice given in verses 8-10, we can walk in the Light as Christians and not stumble in the darkness. While other people may live their lives stumbling around in the dark and facing all kinds of consequences because of it, Christians can boldly walk through whatever circumstances come their way because of Jesus. This article explains what walking in the light means, how to do it, and why it’s essential for you to as a Christian. So what does walking in the Light mean? Let’s look at these verses from 1 John and find out…

This is the life-giving message we heard him share and it’s still ringing in our ears. We now repeat his words to you: God is pure light. You will never find even a trace of darkness in him. If we claim that we share life with him, but keep walking in the realm of darkness, we’re fooling ourselves and not living the truth. But if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from all sin.

The first thing we need to recognize is that this is the context of these verses. The verse we have highlighted in bold is the key verse that we will be looking at in this article. We will be looking at the Light, the darkness, and the way out of the darkness. The Light comes from God, and the darkness comes from our sins. The previous verses have given us an understanding of what it means to have God in our lives and how important it is to have a relationship with God. These verses have also given us an understanding of what it means to walk in the Light. In verse 5, we see that people who walk in the Light walk in God’s ways. In verse 6, we see that those who walk in the Dark and claim to walk with God are fooling themselves. And in verse 7, we see that those who walk in the Light have overcome the evil one.

1 John 1:5-7 – Continuously Walking in the Light

We can see that Christians are supposed to walk in the Light continually. The Bible tells us to walk in the Light, not just once, but every day. Therefore, it is important that we don’t just walk in the Light one day and then stumble around in the darkness the next day. We need to be continuously walking in the Light. If we are truly walking in the Light, we will be walking in God’s ways. We will be following God’s instructions for our lives. We will have God’s Holy Spirit living inside of us, giving us the power to do God’s will. We will also be walking in the Light if we are children of God. If we are children of God, then we have been given eternal life by God. This means that we will never die. We will live with God in heaven for all eternity. Being children of God also means that we are God’s heirs. This means that we will one day inherit God’s Kingdom. We will rule and reign with Christ over the entire world.

If we boast that we have no sin, we’re only fooling ourselves and are strangers to the truth. But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we claim that we’re not guilty of sin when God uncovers it with his light, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.
